Edward LeRoy Govig, the son of Chester and Gladys Newberg Govig was born August 15, 1935 in Adams County, Iowa. He died on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 23 days. Ed was raised in the Morton Mills and Villisca, Iowa area. At an early age, he became a farmhand and worked for many farmers. Following several years of farming, he worked for Schenck Implement, Union Carbide Battery Company, the Thos. D. Murphy Company, and managed a grape vineyard in Council Bluffs, IA. He also worked for Mace & Hahn International and for many years at Red Oak Machine. On February 20, 1999, Ed was united in marriage to Pamelia Cunningham in Red Oak. Ed was a hard worker for most of his life, but did enjoy fishing, hunting and gardening, being well known for growing large tomatoes. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce; and brother, Allen. Ed is survived by his wife, Pam Govig of Red Oak, IA; three sons: Daniel Govig and wife Lori of St. Joseph, MO; David Govig and wife Lucy of Red Oak, IA; and Dennis Govig and wife Rose of St. Joseph, MO; two daughters: Donna Govig of State Center, IA and Diane Govig of Shenandoah, IA; thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; two step-sons: Tim Bryan and wife Gail of Excelsior Springs, MO; and Tommy Lovell of Red Oak, IA; two brothers: Ronald Govig and wife Stella of Red Oak, IA; and Merlin Govig and wife Kay of Clive, IA; and sister, Myrna Lombard and husband Robert of Red Oak, IA; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Private family burial will take place in Arlington Cemetery, Villisca, Iowa Rev. Dr. George Hooper, Officiating A memorial is being established in Ed's name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
