Elaine Smith, the daughter of Willis and Louise (Jorgenson) Rattenborg was born January 13, 1928 at Audubon, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 6 months and 10 days.

Elaine was raised in the Audubon, Iowa area. She was united in marriage to Cleo Smith on May 22, 1948 at Guthrie Center, Iowa and to this union three children were born. The family made Red Oak their home in l967, where Elaine worked at Ben Franklin's and Places department stores before dedicating 15 years to Union Carbide/Eveready Battery Company. Elaine enjoyed hand needlework, sewing, crocheting and playing cards with friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was active in the ladies' circles. Elaine was very proud of her Danish heritage and loved her travels to Denmark.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Evelyn Byriel, Ruby Madsen, Lela Jensen and Erma Chalfant; brother, Belmont Byriel; and son-in-law, George Sharp.

Elaine is survived by her three children: Dianne Sharp of Boone, IA; Mark (Sue) Smith of Clarinda, IA; and Lisa (Doug) Mayo of Pacific Junction, IA; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held

At the First United Methodist Church in Red Oak.

Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
