Eleanor Martha Freed, the daughter of Albin and Rosetta (Lofgren) Carlson was born May 2, 1914 near Elliott, Iowa. She passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 99 years, 5 months and 28 days. Eleanor was baptized near Elliott at the Cramer Chapel. She attended school in Cass County near Griswold. Iowa. Eleanor was united in marriage to Eric "Uno" Freed on February 11, 1937 in Griswold. For 48 years, they made their home on their farm in the Nyman, Iowa community. Eleanor had been a member of the Fremont Lutheran Church at Nyman since 1937. She taught Sunday school, was a leader for Junior Mission band, sang in the choir and ladies chorus, and was active in the ladies group, serving as chairperson for WELCA. Eleanor also enjoyed making banners and baptismal napkins for the church. She loved music and especially, spending time with family and friends. Following her husband's death in 1985, Eleanor moved into Red Oak. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Uno on January 9, 1985; seven sisters and one brother. Eleanor is survived by two sisters-in-law: Kathleen Freed of Redding, IA and Maudeline Carlson of Clarinda, IA; four nephews, seven nieces, other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fremont Lutheran Church, Nyman Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Jerry Lamb, Officiating Visitation with the family on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Fremont Lutheran Church.
