Ellen Joy (Grohs) Green, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Krom) Grohs was born June 3, 1943 at Sioux City, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, September 28, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 25 days. Ellen was raised in the rural Sioux City, Iowa area. She was baptized on July 18, 1943 and confirmed on May 20, 1956 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Ellen graduated from Bronson High School. She was united in marriage to Merlin L. Green on September 17, 1961 in Sioux City. Ellen and Merlin lived in many towns in the Midwest due to Merlin's employment. In 1990, they moved to Red Oak. She was a manager for Merry Maids in Red Oak for many years. The people she met with Merry Maids became more than clients, they were like family. Ellen was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Shenandoah. She loved to work in her flower garden and do crafts. Ellen was very selfless and was always willing to help others, along with being loving, caring, giving, determined and independent. She enjoyed spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ellen spent many summer vacations camping and fishing with her family. She was an avid Nebraska Husker fan. Ellen has always said, as much as she wanted to leave the country life she grew up in, she wished she could have been back in the country as an adult. Ellen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merlin on November 23, 2013; brothers: Wilbur and Raymond Grohs; brothers-in-law: Richard Johnsen and Rhiney Lewis; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Grohs. Ellen is survived by her children: Greg (Donna) Green of Omaha, NE, Jeff (Kristi) Green of Lincoln, NE and Vicki (Jeff) Schaaf of Broken Bow, NE; 7 grandchildren: Scott (Becca) Green, Sarah (Nick) Dodenhof, Sam Green, Jacob Green, Jon Green, Mia Schaaf and fiancé Patrick Kopke and Jessica Schaaf; 4 great-grandchildren: Morgan Green, Sydney Green, William Dodenhof and Cooper Merlin Green; sisters: Mary Lewis of Tonapah, NV and Bernice Johnsen of Sioux City, IA; and sister-in-law, Martha Grohs of Sioux City, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa Burial in the Graceland Cemetery, Sioux City, Iowa Pastor Thomas Jeske, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and prayer service held at 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak. A memorial is being established in Ellen's name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
