Ellen Louise Holmes, the daughter of Edward and Ada Fike England was born March 25, 1932 in Red Oak, Iowa. She died on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at Clarkson Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 8 months and 11 days. Throughout Ellen's childhood she lived in Red Oak and several other communities in Iowa. Following high school, she worked different jobs in southwest Iowa and later Omaha, Nebraska. Ellen was united in marriage to Gary Holmes on September 4, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada. After their wedding and during Gary's military career, they made their home wherever he was stationed. In 1995, they returned to Villisca. Ellen enjoyed cooking, making crafts and quilting. She loved painting porcelain and ceramic dolls, which she would then sell. Ellen and Gary have been busy raising their great-granddaughter, Starla Bohrer. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 children: Bobby and Catherine; 2 grandchildren; 2 sisters: Jodie and Edna; 4 half sisters: Elizabeth, Mae, Della and Christina; and 4 half brothers: Herman, Joe, Lawrence and Roy. Ellen is survived by her husband, Gary Holmes of Villisca, IA; sons: James Black of IA; Terry Larsen of Omaha, NE; William McCoy and wife Brenda of MO; and Ralph McCoy of Corning, IA; daughters: Vickie Blair and husband Arnold of Omaha, NE; Debra Saxton and husband Tom of Wichita, KS; Angela Humphrey of WA; and Sandy Henke of Wichita, KS; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Edward England of Bolivar, MO; sister, Nadine Hardeman of Hooper, NE; other relatives and a host of friends.
