Obituary

Elmer Richmond Parker, the son of Roscoe and Libbie (Sandiland) Parker was born August 11, 1916 at Emerson, Iowa. He passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Table Rock Health Care in Kimberling City, Missouri at the age of 100 years, 10 months and 9 days.
Elmer was raised on a farm in the Emerson, Iowa area. He graduated from Hastings High School in 1935, and began working on a farm. Elmer was united in marriage to Faye E. Wharff on November 10, 1940 at Rockport, Missouri. He entered the Iowa Army National Guard during the summer of 1940, Company M, 168th Infantry, 3rd Battalion, 34th Division in Red Oak. The unit was federalized on February 10, 1941. Company M, along with the 34th division took part in the largest maneuvers ever held with more than 1 million soldiers. The 34th Division had over 600 days of combat, more than any other unit in the entire European campaign of WW II. Elmer participated in Algeria-French Moroccan, Tunisian, Naples-Foggia, Anzio Beach, Rome-Arno, North Apennines, and PO Valley. After his honorable discharge on August 14, 1945, they moved to La Puente, California and later to Baldwin Park, California, where they lived many years. Elmer worked for an egg company, and from 1966 until his retirement in 1979, was a carrier for the U. S. Post Office. Following retirement, Elmer and Faye lived in Menifee, California before moving to Mountain View, Arkansas in 1997, and most recently to Kimberling City, Missouri. Elmer was the last living member of Company M from WW II.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Faye on May 12, 2014; brothers: Warren and Melvin and an infant brother.
Elmer is survived by two daughters: Karen (William) Hodo of Kimberling City, MO and Janice (Randy) Gwin of Mountain View, AR; step-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
