Elsie V. Johnson lived 100+ good years in Stanton, Iowa from July 3, 1919 to February 25, 2020. The daughter of Nels and Ellen Magnuson, she attended Stanton schools and on December 21, 1941, married Alvin Johnson. They have four children and sons-in-law: Rosanne and Tom Williams, David, Ellen and Kevin Stigge and Elizabeth and Jerry Powell. She was a proud Grandma to 8 grandchildren: Carol (Joe), Mike (Michelle), Becca (Jordan), Rachel (Keith), Eric (Diana), Josh, Sean and Emma and 11 great-grandchildren.
Elsie's first 3 years of teaching were in a one room country school and she returned to teaching in Stanton in 1966 and taught many years. She remained an active attender of school events.
Elsie contributed to community and church life as a Sunday School teacher, 4-H leader, member of Lutheran Church Women, Entre Nous and Neighborhood Club and many other activities. She wore out the feeder on her sewing machine hemming quilts made at church quilt days. Elsie was a member of the Mamrelund church council, served on the Board of Nishna Productions and had a new career at age 85 as manager of meals at the Senior Center. She was recognized by the Stanton Chamber with the 2005 Ole Award.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin, brother and sister-in-law: Elver and Columbia Magnuson and Alvin's 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
Elsie will be remembered as a loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma, friend, servant leader and faith role-model. Her life lessons live on in all of us.

Visitation with the family on Thursday, February 27th from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak
Family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to Mamrelund Lutheran Church or to your choice.
