Emza Delores Pein, the daughter of Emmet and Edith Newman Delavan was born January 15, 1923 at Glenwood, Iowa. She died on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 6 days. Emza was raised in Glenwood, IA. She enjoyed being a cheerleader during high school and graduated with the class of l940. Emza attended Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA and later Oklahoma State University. She taught rural country school for two and half years. Emza was united in marriage to Dr. Taylor B. Scott on May 26, 1944 in Kansas City, MO. They made their home in Stillwater, OK, where they lived 53 years. In Stillwater, Emza owned and operated an antique business for 45 years. She loved wildlife and was an avid bird watcher. She also enjoyed horseback riding and was an English riding instructor. Emza was the first woman poultry judge in the United States, and enjoyed judging shows. She had a spirited adventuresome side too, and became a licensed pilot. In January of 1998, Dr. Taylor Scott died. In 2000, Emza decided to move to Red Oak, IA. On September 16, 2004 Emza married Edward ?Buck? Pein in Red Oak. Emza was a member of the United Methodist Church of Stillwater, OK. Emza was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands: Dr. Taylor B. Scott in January of 1998 and Edward ?Buck? Pein on October 5, 2005; son, Barkley and sister, Ila Mae Fitzpatrick. Emza is survived by daughter, DeLavon Scott Lyford and husband Gary of Stillwater, OK; 2 grandchildren: Dustin Taylor Harjo and wife Devin, and Alisa Scott Weatherman and husband Dan all of Oklahoma City, OK; 2 great-grandchildren: Devon Weatherman and Rykker Vaughn Harjo; and brother: Samuel Delavan and wife Margaret of Glenwood, IA. As per Emza?s wishes, no services will be held and burial will take place in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
