Evelyn Mabel Albertine Olson, the daughter of John and Hilma Sandquist Anderson was born March 9, 1907 on a farm northeast of Stanton, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Creighton Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 100 years, 10 months and 1 day.
Evelyn lived on a farm near Stanton. When Evelyn was 13, she and her family moved to Nebraska. Evelyn graduated from high school in Genoa, Nebraska, and shortly following graduation, began teaching country school. She taught three years. Evelyn was united in marriage to Frank A. Olson on February 7, 1930 in Lincoln, Nebraska. They farmed in Nebraska eight years. In 1938, Frank and Evelyn moved to a farm south of Atlantic, IA and farmed there three years. In 1941, Frank, Evelyn and the boys, made their home on a farm northeast of Red Oak. Evelyn was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Red Oak, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was active in the Women's Circles and helped in the kitchen for many events. Evelyn was a past 4-H leader and had served on the boards of the Red Cross and American Cancer Society. She was also active in fundraising for the Heart and Lung Associations. In 1985, Evelyn and Frank retired from farming and moved into Red Oak. The past five years, Evelyn has been a resident of the Stanton Care Center.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank on June 23, 1989; 5 brothers: Delmar, Oliver, Ellery, Raymond and Harold; 3 sisters: Aquilina, Esther and Eleanore; and daughters-in-law: Marilyn Olson and Phyllis Olson.
Evelyn is survived by her sons: Robert Olson; Howard Olson and wife Carolyn; Ralph Olson and fiance Joanne Garcia; and Lyle Olson, all of Red Oak, IA; 11 grandchildren: John Olson of Ankeny, IA; Michael Olson and wife Marcie of Red Oak, IA; Nancie Platt and husband Ryan of Emerson, IA; Kim Ellis and husband Lynn of Red Oak, IA; Mark Olson and wife Kathleen of Huntington Beach, CA; Karla Wood and husband Jim of Red Oak, IA; Sheila Madsen and husband Curtis of West Des Monies, IA; David Olson and wife Lynne of West Des Moines, IA; Danny Olson and wife Kandee of Red Oak, IA; Diana Olson; and Steven Olson; 20 great-grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.
