Obituary

Florence Helen Elizabeth Brown, the daughter of Otto J. and Anna J. Carlson was born June 9, 1914 on a farm near Stanton, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Golden Living Center, Excelsior, MN at the age of 93 years and 8 months. Florence grew up on a farm near Stanton, IA. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Carl Brown on October 4, 1941 in Lake Charles, LA, where Lloyd was stationed in the Army National Guard. To this union two daughters were later born, Sharon and Sandra. While Lloyd was on tour during WW II, Florence lived in Stanton and then moved to a farm near Villisca, IA. Following Lloyd's honorable discharge from the National Guard, they made their home on a farm near Clarinda, IA. In 1965, they moved from the farm to Shenandoah, IA. While in Shenandoah, Florence was a nurse's aid at Shenandoah Hospital for 6 years. Florence and Lloyd retired, moving to Walker, MN. Florence enjoyed winter, snow and loved to go on snowmobile adventures in and around Leech Lake at Walker, MN. After the death of Lloyd in May of 1991, Florence and Sharon continued to live in Walker until 1999 when they relocated to Minneapolis, MN. Florence enjoyed crafts, and taking loving care of Sharon until she passed away in 2001. After that time, she really enjoyed spending time getting to know all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and neighbors at Realife Valley View Cooperative where she lived until she became ill in October of 2007. Florence was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church at Eden Prairie, MN. Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; daughter, Sharon; 4 brothers: Richard Carlson, Harold Carlson, Arnold Carlson, and Wayne Carlson; and 2 sisters: Lillie Pearson and June Bergren. Florence is survived by daughter, Sandra K. Thompson of Eden Prairie, MN; grandchildren: Dr. Angela K. Thompson-Busch and husband Richard; Melissa A. Carrico; John W. Thompson and wife Karla; great-grandchildren: Conner Carrico, Grant Busch, Samuel Thompson, Jackson Busch and Lindsay Thompson; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak, Iowa Burial in Villisca Cemetery, Villisca, IA Visitation with the family present 1 hour prior to the funeral service at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Saturday, February 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.sldfuneralhome.com
