Frances Marie Ramona Hogberg, the daughter of Frans Oscar and Hilma M. (Nadgwick) Patterson was born October 10, 1913 at Essex, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 99 years, 7 months and 15 days. Frances was born and raised in the Essex and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church. In l931, Francis graduated from Essex High School. She attended Red Oak Junior College and then taught at Golden Rod and Maple Hill country schools for 7 years. On July 31, 1940, Frances was united in marriage to Gordon Hogberg in Essex, Iowa. They made their home on a farm near Stanton. In 1959, Frances began teaching elementary education for the Stanton School District. During this time, she completed and received her Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 1978, Frances retired, totaling 26 years of teaching and influencing youth. She was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton. Frances was supportive and involved with various community events in Stanton. She loved her family and friends dearly, living on the farm, and being independent, as she lived at home until moving to the Stanton Care Center a few months ago. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gordon on March 21, 1999; daughter, Clarice; son-in-law, Jim Boatman; and three brothers: Lawrence, Clifford and Elmer. Frances is survived by two children: Ramona Boatman of Herndon, VA, and Maynard Hogberg and wife Anne of Ames, IA; four grandchildren: Cindy Brooking and husband Lance of Ellenwood, GA, Curt Boatman of Herndon, VA, Mike Hogberg and wife Kate of Denver, CO, and Emily Smalley and husband Scott of Independence, IA; four great-grandchildren: Clarice and Lane Brooking, Emmett Hogberg and Braden Smalley; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, along with other relatives and many friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church, Stanton, IA Burial in Mission Covenant Cemetery, rural Stanton, IA Visitation with the family present on Tuesday evening, May 28 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials may be made in Frances's name to the Evangelical Covenant Church, Stanton School District Endowment Fund, or to the donor's choice.
