Obituary

Francis "FX" Xavier Pastore, the son of Joseph and Marian (Di Bianca) Pastore was born April 23, 1940 in Bronx, New York. He passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020 at the Villisca Good Samaritan Society, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 28 days.

FX was raised in Bronx, New York. He graduated from high school in 1959 and on June 29, 1959, entered the U.S. Army. FX served during Vietnam and was honorable discharged on March 18, 1963. FX was united in marriage to Carmela Basile on June 20, 1964 in Bronx, New York. In 1966, he began a 21-year career with the New York City Police Department, an officer with the Bronx 43rd Precinct. During this time FX, also served in the New York Army National Guard. After his retirement from the police force in 1987, he worked as a civil contractor for the government. In 2000, FX and Carmela retired and moved to Beaufort, SC and in 2012 to Red Oak, Iowa. They moved for a time to Council Bluffs, IA in 2014, and then back to Red Oak. FX loved spending time at his children's events and the shooting range. He enjoyed putting together model airplanes, talking with his grandchildren about history and explaining his time on the police force. FX was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak, a lifetime member of the NRA, 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Msgr James L. Mackin Council 9726 and a member of Fighting 69th.

FX is survived by his wife, Carmela Pastore of Stanton, IA; three daughters: Joanne Stephens of Shenandoah, IA, Chrissi (Jerald) Palmquist of Stanton, IA, and Linda Pastore of West New York, NJ, and son, Michael Pastore of Stanton, IA; 7 grandchildren: Allysa, Dana and Lauren Stephens, Christopher (Dagny Nagengast) Palmquist, Austin and Ashley Palmquist and Kyle Pastore; and great-granddaughter, Hadley Bates; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass will be recited Friday, July 24, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.
At St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Oak, IA.
With Military Honors by US ARMY and American Legion Ernie Johnson Post #406 of Stanton.

Viewing will be on Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home
