Fred Janssen Ludwigs, the son of William and Clara Brabander Ludwigs was born October 17, 1920 in Chatsworth, Iowa. He passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 26 days. Fred was raised in Chatsworth where he attended school. He entered the U. S. Navy on September 9, 1942. He was stationed on the USS Arkansas during WW II. The ship acted as an escort for troop convoys across the Atlantic Ocean. His ship was also involved with the landings at Normandy, Cherbourg, France, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Fred completed his Navy service on October 22, l945. Following the Navy, he moved to LeMars, Iowa and worked as a Buick mechanic. Fred was united in marriage to Lucille Seibels on June 18, l946 in LeMars, Iowa. They moved to Red Oak in l952, when Fred went to work for Galloway Buick. In 1960, Fred and Lucille made their home on their farm near Stanton. Fred farmed and worked at Union Carbide Battery Company until his retirement in l982. He was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church and American Legion Ernie Johnson Post 406, both of Stanton. Fred was preceded by his parents; wife, Lucille on October 4, 2001; brothers: Bill Ludwigs and Arthur Ludwigs; sisters: Edna Kleene, Ann Harms, Clara Kluver, Louise Lobber, and Rose Johnson. Fred is survived by two sons: Larry Ludwigs of Omaha, NE; and Rodney Ludwigs of Stanton; two daughters: LaVail Stafford and husband Steve of Neola, IA; and Renae Shelton and husband Bill of Clarinda, IA; 12 grandchildren: Heather Stafford, Michelle Barger and husband Brandon, Ashley McDonald and husband John, Aubrey Dreyer and husband Mike, Austin Strickland, Jamie Evans, Janssen Ludwigs, Branden Bullington and wife Diane, Scott Bullington, Ann Shelton, Elizabeth Shelton, and Lisa Shelton; 9 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa Burial in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, IA Rev.
