Obituary

Gloria Marie Wilkins, the daughter of Woodrow Holmes and Alice Mae Look was born March 7, 1944 at Machiasport, Maine. She passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Red Oak Rehab and Care Center, Red Oak Iowa at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 24 days.

Marie was raised in East Machias, Maine and attended Washington Academy. She worked wit her family at Look Canning Co. She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Brown and they moved to the Midwest after he was discharged from the Air Force and had three children. They moved to Red Oak and then Stanton, Iowa in the early l960's. She worked for the LRC as a darkroom developer including putting together educational materials in Red Oak with her best friend, Dorothy Nuckols. They lived in Stanton until 1984 when she moved to Red Oak. She later married to Danny P. Wilkins on April 4, 1985 in St. Louis, Missouri where they made their home. In 2003, Marie and Danny moved back to Red Oak. Marie enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, gardening and canning tomatoes, making strawberry jam, and snacking on Molasses cookies. She always had a special place in her heart for her pets. Marie loved the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Red Oak, Iowa.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Danny on March 2, 2015; brothers and sisters, Reggie Holmes, Priscilla Holmes, Paul Holmes, Anthony Holmes, Edward Holmes, and Malcolm Holmes.

Marie is survived by a brother: Eric A (Jill) Holmes of Jonesport, ME; three children: Kathryn Brown of North Yarmouth, ME, David (Linda) Brown of Wellington, KS, and Debbie (John) Blay of Red Oak, Iowa; 9 grandchildren: April (Austin) Wellman, Lauran (Anthony) Lamberty, Jennifer (Cody) Helpingstine, Courtney (Brandon) Williams, Caitlyn Brown, Joshua Brown, Malia (Joe) Hendricks, Bryant (Monica) Blay, and Marcus Blay; 17 great-grandchildren: Mary, Anna, Peter, Theodore, Andrew, Adrianna, Kaylob, Sky, Kelly, Payton, Ben, Hank, Andi, Berkley, Corbin, and Payton; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa
