Gail Knapp, the daughter of Bernard and Marjorie (McCoy) Gillette, was born July 8, 1949, in Clarinda, Iowa. She passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa, the age of 76 years, 7 months, and 5 days. 

Gail graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School in l967. She married Stan Sharp and later, was united in marriage to Thomas Knapp on October l5, 1976,  in Red Oak, Iowa. Gail worked for Union Carbide Battery Company from 1975 until 1991. She then attended Iowa Western Community College to become a registered nurse in 1993. She worked in a few area nursing homes, and then from 2008 through 2016, worked with the State of Iowa Health Facilities Survey. Gail enjoyed camping and making crafts and was a past member of the Eagles Auxiliary in Red Oak. 

Gail was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tom on March 15, 2015; daughter, Stacy Wiater; grandson, Mitchell Knapp; sister-in-law, Susan Gerdts and niece, Angela Gerdts. 

Gail is survived by her children: Scooter Sharp, Jr. and wife, Patty of Clayton, NC, Jeff Knapp and wife, Becki of Nodaway, IA, Thomas Knapp, Jr. of NC, and Jody Knapp and wife, Terri of Villisca, IA; 13 grandchildren: Jess (Kyle), Blake (Luc), Ricky, Peyton, Preston, Brendan, Marshall, Jade, Addie, Zak, Laura, Michael (Leann) and Mariah (Josh); 10 great-grandchildren with another due in July, and son-in-law, Rick Wiater of Bellevue, NE, other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Gathering will take place on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Viking Lodge, (formerly the restaurant), Viking Lake State Park, Stanton, IA. 

Memorials may be directed to the family.
