Gary Lee Treat, the son of Joseph R. and Velma I. (Simpson) Treat was born December 13, 1939 in Shenandoah, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, December 17, 2018 at CHI Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 79 years and 4 days.

Gary was raised in Shenandoah, where he graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1958 and began working at their local Hy-Vee store. On July 13, 1958, Gary was united in marriage to Betty L. Blackburn in Shenandoah, Iowa. Gary worked his way to becoming the Hy-Vee director of the Leon, Iowa, store for four years. In 1974, Gary, Betty and sons made Red Oak their home where Gary devoted 17 years as Hy-Vee Store director. Gary retired in 1991 due to health reasons. While in Red Oak, Gary was active with the Red Oak Chamber of Commerce, Red Oak Ambassadors, Kiwanis club, having served as president, and was a member of the First Christian Church. Gary and Betty treasured the many years spent wintering in Arizona and Nevada, and in 1999, moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Gary and Betty loved spending time with their children and their families, attending grandchildren and great-grandchildren's events.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and son, Timothy Treat on January 15, 2009.

Gary is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Treat of Council Bluffs, IA; two sons: Jeff Treat (Susan Bryant) of Tulsa, OK and Bruce (Connie) Treat of Bellevue, NE; daughter-in-law, Tammy Treat of Red Oak, IA; 7 grandchildren: Tina (Jerod) Weston, Travis (Dani) Treat, Tasha (Corey) Vestal, Kevin Colton (Jeannie McIntosh), Michelle (Mike) Leonard, Sherri Sherwood and Tina (Dennis) Tucker; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Beverly (Ed) Fetzer of New Bern, NC; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa.

Visitation with the family on Friday, December 21, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Association.
