Ova Eugene "Gene" Reynolds, the son of Ova and Elva (Artist) Reynolds was born October 8, 1931 at Whitesville, Missouri. He passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at the Nebraska Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 81 years, 5 months and 24 days.
Gene was raised in the Savannah and Fillmore, Missouri areas. He began his farming career after high school. Gene entered the United States Army on July 3, 1952 and served with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper instructor. On June 14, 1954, he returned to Fillmore following his honorable discharge. Gene was united in marriage to Shirley M. Pennington in Savannah, Missouri on September 19, 1959. They farmed in the Fillmore area until 1964, when they moved to a farm north of Stanton, Iowa where he continued farming until 1979. He farmed a year in Arispe, Iowa and then two years back in Fillmore. In 1982, they returned to the Stanton community. Gene became an over the road trucker, driving for the next 30 years. He enjoyed fishing and reading old western books. Gene loved his dogs who at times would ride along in the truck with him. He was a member of the Masonic Tarkio Lodge #645 of Stanton, Iowa.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters: Janet Hanner and Patricia Latin.
Gene is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Reynolds of Stanton, IA; two sons: Russell Reynolds and wife Tracy of Stanton, IA; and Scott Reynolds and wife Cecilia of Stanton, IA; five grandchildren: Melinda Meek and husband Devin, Candice Morris and husband Michael, Dennis Reynolds, Tyler Reynolds and Scharley Reynolds; 6 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and friends.
