Genevieve O'Herron Pyle, the daughter of C. Clay and Rosalie (Ellis) O'Herron was born November 1, 1917 on her family's farm near Ridgefarm, Illinois. She passed away peacefully to our Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 6 months and 5 days. Genevieve's father died when she was two. Throughout her young life, as was the custom, she was cared for by relatives while her widowed mother attended school and worked several places to provide. She was re-united with her mother permanently during her high school years. She attended four different high schools, and graduated in 1935 from high school in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Genevieve attended William Penn College for two years, and later graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois in 1939. On July 28, 1940, she was united in marriage to William Pyle Jr. on the family farm at Ridgefarm, Illinois. Genevieve and William lived at Amarillo, Texas while William was in the Army Air Corps. They moved to Ames, Iowa in l946, and in 1948 opened their business, Pyle Photo Service. Genevieve loved working with the public and took pride in offering good customer service. Genevieve served customers for 61 years, as she retired in 2008, at the age of 91. Genevieve was involved in many events and activities in the Ames community. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, Women's Club, a charter member of Altrusa Int'l., American Legion Auxiliary, Social Order of Beauceant, Order of Eastern Star, and Good Sam RV Club, all of Ames. She loved bowling in leagues and with friends, still bowling until the age of 91. Genevieve moved to Red Oak in January of 2010 to be near her daughter, Ellen. Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William on August 18, 1995 and daughter-in-law, Kay McConnell Pyle in 1983. Genevieve is survived by her 4 children: William V. "Bill" (Kris) Pyle of Sun Prairie, WI; Nancy R. (Mark) Weinreich of River Falls, WI; John C. Pyle of Ames, IA and Ellen L. (Paul) Griffen of Red Oak, IA; 8 grandchildren: Andrea (Craig) Portis of Salt Lake City, UT; Lisa Weinreich of Missoula, MT; Carrie (Charlie) Brown of Nevada, IA; Jeremiah (Liz) Schultz of Ames, IA; Lane (Patrick) Potts of Ames, IA; Michaela, Bevin and Sean Griffen of Red Oak, IA; 6 great-grandchildren: Anna Brown, Emma and Ila Schultz, Landon, Braylon and Kaygan Potts; other relatives and friends.
