George Owen McMillin, the son of Robert and Norma Yates McMillin was born December 27, 1948 in Red Oak, Iowa. He died on Sunday, June 17, 2007 south of Spencer, Iowa from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 21 days. George grew up in Red Oak. He graduated from Red Oak High School in l967. Following graduation, he moved to Omaha and worked construction for one year. On September 23, 1968, George entered the U.S. Navy, serving during Vietnam. George was united in marriage to Lucena ?Lucy? Ramos on September 18, 1971 in Winterhaven, California and to this union, three daughters were born. They made their home in the San Diego, California area. George served the United States Navy for 11 years, achieving the rank of Chief. While in San Diego, George received both his Associate of Arts Degree in Selected Studies from San Diego Miramar College and Bachelor Degree of Technical Education from National University. He was an instructor from 1980 to 1988 at the San Diego Community College for Naval Training Center. In l988, George and Lucy moved to Red Oak. George worked for Parker-Hannifin Company for a number of years and later after Lucy?s death went to work for Eaton?s Corporation in Shenandoah and Spencer. George was a free spirit; he loved riding his motorcycle, especially on poker runs. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Lucy on November 14, 2002. George is survived by three daughters: Mary McMillin-Gill and husband Michael of Portland, OR; Kathleen McMillin of Red Oak, IA; Ellen McMillin Burnside and husband Marvin of San Diego, CA; grandson: Keaton Takoda Burnside; brother: Robert McMillin and wife Linda of Red Oak, IA; sisters: Velma Smith and husband Marlin of Red Oak, IA; Susan Volquartsen and husband David of Red Oak, IA; Nancy Smith and husband Dennis of Council Bluffs, IA; Dortha Morris and husband Dave of McCook, NE; nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends. George was cremated and his Memorial Service will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, June 25, 2007 At Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating The funeral home will be open on Sunday, June 24 from 12:00 to 4:00 P.M. however, the girls will not be present. A memorial is being established.
