Obituary

Geraldine Anna Focht, the daughter of Pearl and Anna Pfeiffer Reed was born July 10, 1913 in Red Oak, Iowa. She passed away on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at the Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 98 years and 9 months. Geraldine was raised in Montgomery County and graduated from Pilot Grove Country School in 1927 at a ceremony at Chautauqua Pavilion in Red Oak. Following graduation, Geraldine worked in the office for the Thos. D. Murphy Calendar Company. On August 19, 1935, Geraldine was united in marriage to Aaron W. Focht at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. For a time, she and Aaron drove a truck. Geraldine then worked at Howard Mfg. in Council Bluffs, IA, making radio parts for the flying fortresses. After Aaron entered the Army in 1943, they made their home in Little Rock, AR, Ft. Belvoir, VA, Longview, TX, Paducah, KY and Pensacola, FL. In 1953, they moved to Cedar Rapids, IA where Geraldine worked 15 years for the 7-Up Bottling Company. In 1973, Geraldine and Aaron retired and moved to Mountain Home, AR, returning to Red Oak in l988. She made her final move on May 28, 2008 to DeSoto, KS to live with her great-nephew Lynn Pritchard and his wife Nancy. Geraldine attended the Hope for Life Church in Red Oak. She enjoyed playing card games, especially Pitch and Kings in the Corner. She also enjoyed fishing and even in her 90's was ready to go at a moments notice. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Aaron on April 13, 1997; sisters, Grace and Gladys; and brother, George. Geraldine is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Homer Focht of Red Oak, IA and sister-in-law, Laurena Dunn of Nodaway, IA. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 13, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Pastor Ricky A. Rohrig Sr., Officiating Memorials to Hope for Life Church in Red Oak or Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care, 12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145 Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
