Geraldine ""Jerry"" Violet Smith Ayres, the daughter of Kenneth ""Bill"" and Marie Volzke Craige was born November 20, 1927 in York, Nebraska. She passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at the Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 84 years and 28 days. Jerry grew up in York, Nebraska, moving to Red Oak, Iowa when she was 13 years old. She attended high school in Red Oak. Jerry was united in marriage to Earl ""Smitty"" Smith on November 16, 1946 in Hiawatha, KS. They made their home in Red Oak. Jerry worked in retail sales for several businesses including Arlene's Glad Rags. Smitty passed away in l978. Jerry enjoyed decorating her home with all of her special collectables. On February 23, 1980, Jerry was united in marriage to LeRoy R. Ayres in Red Oak. Jerry was so proud of her daughter, Polly and loved and treasured everything about her granddaughter, Lindsey. Jerry was preceded in death by her parents and husbands: Earl ""Smitty"" Smith on June 17, 1978 and LeRoy R. Ayres on July 12, 2001. Jerry is survived by her daughter, Polly Huebert and husband John of Omaha, NE; granddaughter: Lindsey Huebert of Omaha, NE, nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. JoAnn Thomas, Officiating Visitation with the family will precede the service on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home. Family and friends will leave the funeral home in procession for the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Memorials to the Red Oak Fire & Rescue Association or Hospice House in Omaha Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
