Obituary

Gladys Marie Erickson, the daughter of Otto Daniel and Rosa E. Lawson Hultquist, was born March 5, 1917 in Page County, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society of Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 94 years and 2 days. Gladys was raised in Page County and attended county school at Kramer School. She worked as a housekeeper and in retail sales at the Woolworth's store in Red Oak. She was united in marriage to Wesley A. Erickson on February 14, 1944 in Stanton, Iowa. They made their home on a farm southeast of Stanton. Gladys then worked at Spurgeon's. She also had a 40-year career as a cook, which was equally divided between Three Crowns Café in Stanton and the Stanton Care Center. She loved to bake and her pies were exceptional. Gladys enjoyed sewing, working with the ladies in WELCA, along with serving for years as a 4-H leader. Gladys was a member of Mamrelund Lutheran Church and many neighborhood clubs. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, brother Arthur Hultquist, and sister Clara Burke. Gladys is survived by her husband Wesley A. Erickson of Stanton, Iowa; daughter Bonnie Hanson and husband Robert of Maplewood, MN; granddaughter Lia Sacco and husband Giuseppe of Boca Raton, FL; two great-grandchildren: Antonio and Matteo; other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life will be held Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 410 Eastern Avenue, Stanton, Iowa. Private inurnment in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton, Iowa. Memorials to the Stanton Historical Society for the Kramer School House. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
