Obituary

Gloria Jean Sandholm, the daughter of Santo and Emma (Buhrig) Greco was born September 16, 1929 at Omaha, Nebraska. She passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at the Bethany Lutheran Home, Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 8 days. Gloria was raised in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic High School. On April 22, 1951, Gloria was united in marriage to Verner Sandholm in Omaha. They moved to a farm near Emerson, Iowa and in March of 1959, made their home on their farm east of Red Oak. Gloria was a busy farm wife and enjoyed growing vegetable gardens for her family. At the time her two children went off to college, Gloria went to work at Vista Gardens Care Center and dedicated 10 years there. Gloria was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church, working each Monday with the ladies circles. She also enjoyed being a part of the Happy Girls Birthday Club, and was a past member of Farm Bureau and the American Legion Auxiliary. Gloria loved her family dearly and treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verner on November 2, 1997; infant son, Leland; and sister, Marianna. Gloria is survived by her son, Leonard Sandholm and wife Jana of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Irene Gentile and husband Dan of Council Bluffs, IA; grandsons: Brett Sandholm and wife Sumer of Red Oak, IA; and Jake Gentile of Council Bluffs, IA; granddaughter, Kelly Maynes and husband Pat of Red Oak, IA; great-grandsons: Kyler and Chase Sandholm, Carter and Jarrett Maynes; and other relatives and friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Dr. George Hooper, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Alzheimer's Association. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
