Obituary

Grace Dora Schultz, the daughter of Otto and Angeline (Kitkouski) Koerte was born November 21, 1939 at Nawiliwili, Kauai, Hawaii. She passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 10 months and 17 days. Grace attended Lihue Elementary and Kauai High School, graduating in 1957. She was confirmed at the Lihue Lutheran Church. Receiving the Hawaii scholarship, Grace attended Midland College at Fremont, Nebraska, graduating in 1961. She taught second grade, two years at Clarkson Elementary in Fremont, Nebraska. On June 23, 1962, Grace married John O. Schultz at the Edensburg Lutheran Church in Malmo, Nebraska. They lived in Fremont and Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska, before the family moved to Stanton, Iowa in l967. Grace substituted at Stanton Elementary. She worked at the Stanton Care Center for 13 years, before going to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital continuing for the next 13 years, before retiring. Grace was an active member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, singing in the choir, teaching confirmation classes and was a member of WELCA. She was also a member of Ruth Chapter 119 Order of Eastern Star at North Bend, Nebraska. Grace enjoyed being with her grand and great-grandchildren. She was a fan of the school activities especially basketball, where she was a basketball mom for several years. Grace loved to crochet, making an afghan for each of the grand and great-grandchildren. She shared many hours helping with bingo at the Stanton Care Center. Morning coffee with her friends was always enjoyed. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Otto, Walter, and Stanley Koerte; and sisters: Irene Furtato and Margaret Parraga. Grace is survived by her husband, John O. Schultz of Stanton, IA; children: Kathryn (Chris) Johnson of Sidney, IA; John Joe (Lynn) Schultz of Omaha, NE; and Dawn (Dave) Dramse of Bellevue, NE; six grandchildren: Abby (Chris) Wederquist of Tabor, IA; Brandon (Kami) Johnson of Sidney, IA; Kylee Schultz of Omaha, NE; and Akela, Jaden & Samuel Dramse of Bellevue, NE; five great-grandchildren: Tristyn & Haydin Johnson and Otto, Raif & Kora Wederquist; sister, Violet (Norris) Bogan of Farmington, AK; and brother-in-law, Louis Parraga of Kekaha, Kauai, HI; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Grace's favorite saying for you all, "Makua Ke Aloha, Meke Aloha" which translates, "God Loves You and so do I." May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 12, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa Burial in the Mamre Cemetery Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Family requests Memorials in lieu of flowers to the Mamrelund Lutheran Church or Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Scholarship Fund.
