Harold Dana Spencer, the son of George and Ethelyn (Letting) Spencer was born September 2, 1932, in Greenfield, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, at Arlington Place, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 23 days.
Harold was raised in Greenfield, IA. He enjoyed playing sports in high school where he was a running back for the football team and a pitcher for the baseball team. Harold served his country four years, when he entered the United States Air Force on April 18, 1951, and was honorably discharged on April 17, 1955. On November 29, 1954, Harold was united in marriage to JoAnn Carson in Tampa, Florida. To this union, three sons were born, Harold Jr, Randy and Scott. They made their home in Red Oak in 1965 and made many memories with family and friends over the years. Harold worked for AT&T from the time he got out of the Air Force until his retirement, becoming a supervisor at the Coburg, IA, AT & T tower. As he got older, Harold continued playing sports, as he was one of the area's best fast-pitch softball pitchers, which earned him MVP. Harold also bowled for more than 30 years on multiple leagues and enjoyed playing golf. His favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes. He loved playing Cribbage, Pinochle, Dominos, UNO and a good hand of Pitch. Harold and JoAnn were married 46 years before her death in September of 2000. He loved life and easily shared his with those around him. Harold was a kind man, full of wisdom and love. Harold will be missed by so many because he never knew a stranger.
Harold was proceeded in death by his wife, JoAnn Spencer; sons, Scott, Randy and Harold, Jr.; siblings, Joyce and Jerry; and longtime friend, Donna Patrick.
Harold is survived by seven grandchildren: Baron and Amber Spencer, Jennifer (Paul) Mertz of Red Oak, IA, Whitni (Brien) Powell of Omaha, Ne, Dakota (Lacey) Spencer of Springfield, MO, Mackenzie (Jake) Brown of Jefferson City, MO, and Hunter (Carissa) Spencer of Jefferson City, MO; 16 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Alice (Bill) Carver of Holts Summit, MO, and 6 siblings: Gary (Donna), George (Anita), William, Marlene, Kathy (Walter), and Deloris (Tom).

Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 29, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral on Friday December 29, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
Burial with Military Honors will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
