Obituary

Harry Lynn Conrad, the son of Oliver Earl and Martha A. (Collier) Conrad was born January 30, 1921 near Imogene, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Red Oak Healthcare Community, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 97 years and 6 months.

Harry was raised in the Mills County area near Strahan and attended high school at Strahan. He stopped his education when he was 15 years old to work and help at home during the depression. Harry entered the U. S. Army on August 26, 1942. He served during WW II in Central Europe, Rhineland and Ardennes. He was honorably discharged on December 20, 1945. Harry was united in marriage to Mildred L. Wilson on February 24, 1946 at Malvern, Iowa. They lived a few years in the Malvern area and then Stanton for two years. Harry and Mildred moved to Hawthorne in 1956, beginning a 50-year career with Mr. Edward Wearin, and after retirement, Mr. Leo Smith. Harry was hardworking, honest, kind and highly respected. His vocation was to work, and his avocation was to work. He took great pride in a job well done. Harry enjoyed hunting wild mushrooms and bittersweet, and always knew where the wild strawberries were located. He was a member of the Hawthorne United Methodist Church. Harry was a devoted husband, father and a fantastic grandfather.
