Helen Erville Gresham, the daughter of John and Vera Savidge Hickey was born on May 19, 1918 in Giltner, Nebraska, one of eleven children. She died on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 13 days. Helen was raised in the Thurman, Iowa community and graduated from Thurman High School. She was united in marriage to Lloyd C. Gresham on August 3, 1936 in St. Joseph, MO. They had lived in Fremont, Page and Montgomery counties. In 1955, Helen and Lloyd moved to the Red Oak area and in l984 they moved into Red Oak. Helen worked for the Union Carbide Battery Company in Red Oak for 18 years. She had been active in the Congregate Meal Sites in both Coin and Red Oak. Family was very important to Helen, she would attend as many of the grandchildren's activities as possible. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and through the years had made one for each grandchild. Helen enjoyed baking, especially cinnamon rolls and making homemade noodles for family and friends. Sunday dinner was always at her home for the whole family. She took time to watch her favorite TV programs, "Smarter than a Fifth Grader" and "Wheel of Fortune". Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd on January 31, 1995; 2 grandsons: Roger Gresham and Anthony Edwards; 2 sisters: Mildred Mendenhall and Edna Delp; 4 brothers: Cecil, John, Paul and Dean; and son-in-law, Russell Hoegh. Helen is survived by 5 children: Cecil Gresham and wife Katie of Red Oak, IA; Charlene Albright and husband Vern of Bella Vista, AR; Marlene Bonney and husband Bob of Strawberry, AZ; Mary Hoegh of Atlantic, IA; Debbie Slater of Shenandoah, IA; 12 grandchildren: Larry Albright, Laura Albright, Tom Albright and wife Susan, Dennis Gresham and Lynne, Gary Gresham, Stephanie Sullivan and husband Gerald, Jennifer Aguayo and husband Jaime, Amy Maeder, Carrie Hoegh, Lynnette Slater-Crandall and husband Shawn, Andy Slater, Jeff Slater and fiancée Ann Marsden; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ila Jean Golden and husband Bob of Thurman, IA; brothers: Gerald Hickey and wife Joyce of Northboro, IA; Keith Hickey and wife Lela of Tabor, IA; David Hickey and wife Mona of Carson City, CA; brother-in-law, Glenn Delp of Rock Spring, WY; special cousin, Onalee Czapla of Shenandoah, IA; nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives along with friends. May God Bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Burial will take place Wednesday morning, August 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery south of Riverton, Iowa. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial is being established in her Helen's name Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
