Helen Kathryn Anderson, the daughter of Carl E. and Helen K. Herron Hoaglund was born May 10, 1927 in Stanton, Iowa. She passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Valhaven Care Center, Valley, Nebraska at the age of 85 years, 6 months and 25 days. Kathryn was raised in the Stanton and Wallin area. She was baptized and confirmed at the Tabor Lutheran Church and graduated from Stanton High School in l945, where she participated in sports. Kathryn was united in marriage to Arnold E. Anderson on April 23, 1947 in Troy, Kansas. Kathryn and Arnold made their home in the Wallin, Sciola and Morton Mills area, where they farmed for many years. Kathryn enjoyed raising and selling chickens along with their eggs. She was an avid gardener and canned each seasons produce. Kathryn was a past 4-H leader and helped at polling centers during elections. She was a member of the Strand Lutheran Church. Kathryn and Arnold loved to take car trips to visit family. She loved her grandchildren dearly, spending as much time as possible with them and attended their many activities and events. In 2004, they retired from farming and moved into Red Oak. In May of 2010, Kathryn became a resident of Stanton Care Center and in July of 2011, she moved to Valhaven Care Center in Valley, Nebraska. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold on April 8, 2011; infant son, Dennis; daughter, Sharon Lewis; and brother, Curtis Hoaglund. Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Patricia Powell and husband Terry of Valley, NE; son, Kevin Anderson and wife Trish of Ames, IA; grandchildren: Mike Powell and wife Melissa; David Means and wife Ronda; Brian Means and special friend Polly Sproles; Katrina Sebeniecher and husband Jeff; Ashley Williams and husband Chris; Alyssa Mogler and husband Logan; and Alexa Anderson; six great-grandchildren: Kyndra Means, Heather Means, Emily Sebeniecher, Kaleb Sebeniecher, Mollie Powell, and Ella Kathryn Powell; sisters: Charleen Kimbrell of Independence, MO; and Beatrice Brown of Austin, TX; nieces, nephews, along with other relatives and many friends. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in the Essex Cemetery, Essex, IA Rev.
