Helen Louise (Gourley) Sellergren, the daughter of Dr. Clyde M. and Hazel (Arterburn) Gourley, was born on July 23, 1925 in Montgomery County, Iowa near Villisca. She passed away on October 19, 2014 at the Stanton Care Center, Stanton, Iowa at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 26 days. Helen was raised on her family farm north of Villisca with her brother, Clyde, Jr. She attended country school in Montgomery County until 6th grade. She attended Junior and High School in Villisca, graduating in 1942. She then attended Junior College in Red Oak for one year before joining the staff at Carlson Photography Studio where she worked until she married. On December 25, 1943, she was united in marriage to Darland E. Sellergren at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton. They purchased the farm adjoining Darland's parents' farm where they lived until 1978, when they moved into Darland's childhood home. Helen enjoyed her home and her family, especially cooking family meals for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She participated in many church activities and was part of the Mayflower Club for many years. Her favorite past-time since her earliest years was reading. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Darland on May 31, 2003; parents, brother, Clyde Gourley, sister-in-law, Ruth Gourley, and sister-in-law, Mildred Jones and her husband, Jim Jones, along with many friends. She is survived by her children, Barry and Nancy Sellergren of Villisca, IA and Darnelle (Sellergren) Goines of Stanton, IA; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church, Stanton, Iowa Burial in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating Visitation will be held Friday morning at Mamrelund Lutheran Church from 9:30 a.m until service time at 10:30 a.m. All memorials in Helen's honor will be given to Mamrelund Lutheran Church and the Stanton Library.
