Henry Virgil "Bud" Durlin III, the son of Henry V. "Hank" and Ellen Jean (Soals) Durlin was born December 23, 1939 in San Diego, California. He passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 73 years, 9 months and 25 days. Bud was raised in many cities, since his father was a career Navy man. He graduated high school in 1957 at Warrenton, Virginia. Bud was united in marriage to Janice Lou "Jan" Carter on November 6, 1957 in Front Royal, Virginia. They moved to Wisconsin in 1958, when Bud began working for Ambrosia Chocolate Company. He later transferred to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1963. In 1970, Bud and Jan made Red Oak their home, where he worked for Combined Insurance Company for three years. In 1974, Bud began a 31 year career with Uniroyal/Parker-Hannifin in Red Oak, retiring in 2005. He was also a regional delivery manager for the Des Moines Register and Council Bluffs Nonpareil in southwest Iowa, and helped manage the Red Oak Elks Lodge. He was a past member of All Angels Episcopal Church in Red Oak. In 2010, Bud and Jan moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Bud was an avid sports fan, coaching all of his son's sports teams for many years, and even played softball into his 50's. Bud was a devoted Boston Red Sox's fan, loved to read all type of books and do crossword puzzles. But family was most important to Bud; he treasured and loved his boys and grandchildren dearly, along with his dog, Ginny. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patricia Louisa Durlin Parks Schultz; sister-in-law, Barbara Nagle and brother-in-law, Tommy Carter. Bud is survived by his wife, Janice L. "Jan" Durlin of Council Bluffs, IA; sons: Henry V. "Butch" Durlin IV of Orlando, FL, his wife, Bethann and their son, Henry V. Durlin V; Scott Durlin of State Center, IA, his wife, Janelle and their two children, Aaron and Emily; and Eric "Rick" Durlin of Castle Rock, CO, his wife, Susan and their two children, Erika and Jake; brother, John Durlin of Waterford, WI, and his wife Betsy; sister-in-law, Velma Courtney of Red Oak, IA; and brother-in-law, George Carter of Southport, NC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
