Obituary

Iona Mae Maxell, the daughter of Ray and Mable (Lundeen) Roberts was born May 9, 1918 in Montgomery County, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 100 years, 8 months and 1 day.

Iona was raised in Montgomery County. Her parents passed away when she was 12 years old, so she went to live with her grandparents in Red Oak. Iona graduated from Red Oak High School in 1936 and began working for Butler Grocery. On March 22, 1941, Iona was united in marriage to Clarence O. Maxell in Omaha, Nebraska. They made their home on several farms in Montgomery County until they purchased and moved to their farm near Tenville.

Iona was a great cook and loved helping Clarence with the farm work. In 2010, Iona moved to her daughter's home at Papillion, Nebraska. In July of 2018, she became a resident of Red Oak Good Samaritan Society. Iona was a member of the Tabor Lutheran Church at Wallin, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She also and helped with Luther League.

Iona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence on November 25, 1987; infant sister, Doris and daughter-in-law, Ann Ellen Maxell.

Iona is survived by her two children: Ronald Maxell of Seattle, WA and Ann (Kennie) Ruple of Papillion, NE; 3 grandchildren: Amy Ruple, Reed Maxell and Steven Maxell; 4 great-grandchildren: Alexsey, Greger, Andrew and Annie V. Maxell; and sister, Maxine Cleveland of Red Oak, IA; other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 12:00 noon till service time at 1:00 p.m.
