Jack Sterling Fort, the son of Francis "Ted" and Gladys (Keim) Fort was born October 1, 1927 at Red Oak, Iowa. He passed away on Monday, November 20, 2017 in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 90 years, 1 month and 19 days.
Jack was raised in Red Oak and while in high school, entered the U. S. Navy on November 23, 1944. He was honorably discharged on July 19, 1946, returned to Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak High School. Jack was united in marriage to Dolores Swanson on October 26, 1947 in Red Oak. He began working at Red Oak Machine with his father and brother, and later became co-owner. Jack retired in 1989, after 43 years with Red Oak Machine. Jack and Dolores enjoyed traveling in their motor-home and the nine winters they spent in Arizona. Jack enjoyed listening to classical music, but his most important hobby and love, was his family. Jack was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Welders Association.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Betty Crowe and husband Jim, and Joyce Gesiriech; brother, William Fort and wife Doris; and brother-in-law; Richard Carlson.
Jack is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dolores Fort of Red Oak, IA; daughter, Cynthia Richards of Council Bluffs, IA; son, David (Brenda) Fort of Council Bluffs, IA; 5 grandchildren: Julia (Craig) Krapfl, Chris (Jenni) Richards, Michelle Barta, Joshua (Larissa) Fort and Courtney Fort; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Carlson of Oak Grove, MO; and brother-in-law, Rollin Gesiriech of Urbandale, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Friday, November 24, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.
At Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home
Burial with military rites at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.
Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the funeral on Friday, November 24 at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
