James L. McDaniel Jr., the son of James and Marcella (Rader) McDaniel Sr., was born December 30, 1952, in Richmond, Indiana. He passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 3 days.

James was raised in Richmond, Indiana. He was united in marriage to Penny J. Carlstedt, and the couple later divorced. Over the years, James made his home in several southwest Iowa communities, including near Bethesda, Clarinda, New Market, and later Villisca. He was employed as a correctional officer at the Clarinda Correctional Facility. James was a talented craftsman who enjoyed working with leather, creating many beautiful items that he sold at local craft shows. He also had a knack for reupholstering furniture. During the summer months, James took great pride in tending his large garden, always planting enough to share the bounty with family and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jimmy; 2 brothers: Larry and Robert; and 3 sisters: Ruth Ann, Bonnie and Loretta.

James is survived by his sons: Jamie (Victoria) McDaniel of Lamoni, IA and Duane McDaniel of Villisca, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
