James Elder Palmquist, the son of Elder and Ruth (Johnson) Palmquist was born October 12, 1929, north of Stanton, Iowa in Montgomery County. He passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at the Villisca Good Samaritan Society, Villisca, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 3 months and l day.
Jim was raised in the Stanton area. He attended Pittsburgh Country School and later Red Oak High School. On March 2, 1952, Jim was united in marriage to June E. Jones at Wales, Iowa. To this union, they were blessed with three children, Janet, Jolene and Jerald, their pride and joy. The family made their home on a farm south of Stanton, Iowa where Jim farmed. He also served 8 years in the Iowa Army National Guard during Korea. Jim was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Stanton, where he helped with youth groups and serving on the board and as an elder. In the fall of 1992, Jim and June moved to Red Oak. After making Red Oak their home, they became members of Faith Community Church. Jim was an active member having served on the board, was an assistant treasurer, helped with Awana's, and used his carpentry and "fix-it" skills to make many repairs. He was a willing and faithful servant of the Lord. Jim loved his family, the farm and working the land, as he continued farming south of Stanton until the past few weeks. His hobbies included working in his shop repairing equipment and woodworking.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June on January 11, 2007 and brother, Donald Palmquist.
Jim is survived by his two daughters: Janet Kahnk of Omaha, NE and Jolene Goodsell and husband Doug of Omaha, NE; and son, Jerald Palmquist and wife Chrissi of Stanton, IA; 9 grandchildren: Jessica (Andrew) Beauregard, Andrea (Paul) Rahn, Brandon Kahnk, Zachary (Christine) Goodsell, Ellie and Amanda Goodsell, Christopher, Austin and Ashley Palmquist; 2 great-grandchildren: Madeline and Amelia Rahn; brother, John (Charlotte) Palmquist of Stanton, IA; and sister-in-law, Jean Palmquist of Red Oak, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

At Faith Community Church, Red Oak, IA

Private family burial with military honors will take place prior to the service in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak.
Visitation with the family will be held Monday evening, January 15 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home.
A memorial is being established in Jim's name.
