James William Vonnahme was born on April 2, 1929 in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Bernard "Ben" and Mary Geier Vonnahme. He passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 82 years and 14 days. Jim was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion Lorraine Post #67, Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Court of Honor and Iowa State Sheriffs and Deputies Association. Jim was owner of Midwest Furniture for the past 53 years and a long time member of the Red Oak Chamber of Commerce. Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where services will be held. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Larry, Wayne and Vernon; and brother-in-law, A.J. Walker. Those who cherish his memory and mourn his passing are his wife of 56 years, Lucille Steinhauser Vonnahme of Red Oak, IA; son, Steve of Red Oak, IA; daughters: Debra Dan Tobin of Seattle, WA; Rebecca Brian Barkley of Peoria, IL; Kathryn Stephen Dostal of Papillion, NE; Kristina Jerome Gradoville of Omaha, NE; Jayne Thomas Schram of Gretna, NE; and Judith Michael Sexton of LaVista, NE; 12 grandchildren: Steven, Erin and Shannon Tobin of Seattle, WA; Sarah Barkley of Las Vegas, NV; Patrick Barkley of St. Louis, MO; Jennifer and Matthew Barkley of Peoria, IL; Rachel and Luke Dostal of Papillion, NE; Samantha Gradoville, of New York, NY; and Morgan and Nathan Gradoville, of Omaha, NE; sister, Betty Walker of Carroll, IA; sisters-in-law: Sally Vonnahme of Carroll, IA; Mary Vonnahme of Ankeny, IA; Mary Martin of Tucson, AZ; and Agnes Miller of Round Top, TX; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Red Oak Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Father Ken Gross, Officiating Family burial will be held later at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Mount Carmel, Iowa Following the service a time of remembrance and reflection with the family will be held in the Parish Hall.
