Jane Elizabeth Petersen, the daughter of Louis H. and Elizabeth H. Anderson Joslin was born January 22, 1929 at Tipton, Iowa. She passed away suddenly at her home in Red Oak, Iowa on September 24, 2010 at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 2 days. Jane was raised as a child of a Methodist minister and lived in several communities in her younger years. She graduated from Madrid High School, Madrid, Iowa and then attended Simpson College, Indianola, IA. Jane was united in marriage to John K. Petersen on January 26, 1952 in Collins, Iowa. They moved to Red Oak in March of l956. While in Red Oak, Jane and John owned the Green Parrot from 1965 to 1968. Jane also worked for Olson Welding, Smith Jewelry Store along with helping in her husband's law office. She had also owned and operated her clothing store, Joslin's Clothing. In 1997, Jane went to work for CDS and retired in 2007. She was an active member of the First Christian Church of Red Oak, serving as Choir Director for 25 years. Jane loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was always supportive of their activities. She was awarded the Homemaker of the Year in l962. Jane enjoyed playing cards with all of her friends and watching Iowa State and Iowa Hawkeye football. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; husband: John K. Petersen on March 16, 1997; sisters: Edith and Emily; and brother: Scott. Jane is survived by her four children: Randy Petersen and wife Roxanne of Des Moines, IA; Rick Petersen of Omaha, NE; Libby Shuman of Red Oak, IA; and John Petersen, Jr. and wife Kathy of Columbus, NE; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Elaine Petersen of Redfield, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. JoAnn Thomas, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Tuesday evening at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials in lieu of flowers to First Christian Church or the Family.
