Jean Ellen Snodgrass, the daughter of Carl O. and Esther (Houck) Stephens was born July 14, 1936 on a farm, 7 miles southwest of Bedford, Iowa. She passed away suddenly on June 19, 2015 at her home in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 5 days. Jean attended country school through 8th grade and graduated in 1954 from Bedford High School. While in school, she was active in 4-H, Rainbow Girls and participated in musical activities. Jean was united in marriage to Kenneth Fine. In 1964, the family moved to Red Oak, and on August 9, 1968, Jean married Russell M. Snodgrass at Omaha, Nebraska. Jean was an executive secretary at Wilson Concrete Company for 27 years, before retiring in 1992. She was a member of Altrusa International of Red Oak, having served as president; Order of Eastern Star; and past Worthy Advisor of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, where she received the Grand Cross of Color. She was also a member of the Red Oak First Christian Church, Montgomery County Historical Society, and a lifetime member of the Taylor County History Center. Jean's hobbies included sewing, gardening and reading. She loved her family and friends dearly. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Snodgrass on October 7, 1986; daughter, Christy Fine on November 3, 2014; and sister-in-law, Sharon Stephens. Jean is survived by her two children: Michael Fine and wife Monica of Red Oak, IA; and Kathryn Sattro and husband Mike of Red Oak, IA; granddaughter, Sumer Sandholm and husband Brett of Red Oak, IA; great grandchildren: Chase & Kyler Sandholm of Red Oak, IA; and brother, David Stephens of Omaha, NE; other relatives and many friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Visitation with the family present on Tuesday evening at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorial to the Red Oak Fire & Rescue Association Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
