Obituary

Jerry Allan Sandin, the son of Donald and Mildred Urn Sandin was born March 12, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away after a seven month battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 22 days.

Jerry was raised in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1960, he graduated from East High School in Des Moines. Jerry furthered his education by attending Iowa State University. He also served six years with the Iowa Army National Guard. Following college, Jerry was employed with Anderson-Erickson Dairy in Des Moines. He then became a Southwest Iowa area sales representative for Flavor Kiss Cookies. On June 8, 1968, Jerry was united in marriage to Judy Blecher in Newman Grove, Nebraska. They made their home on a farm north of Stanton where Jerry began to farm. He retired from farming in l992. Jerry then began a 15 year career with Pella Corporation in Shenandoah, Iowa. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. Jerry also loved woodworking, and any do-it-yourself project Judy could think of for him. He loved his family and children dearly and attended all their activities. Over the years, Jerry and Judy made many trips South to spend the winters in Texas. Jerry was a member of the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, charter member of the Stanton Lions Club, Masonic Tarkio Lodge 645 A.F. & A.M., and the Double Dozen Club, all of Stanton, Iowa. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Judy Sandin of rural Stanton, IA; sons: Jason Sandin and wife Trevi of Bondurant, IA; and Jeff Sandin and wife Michelle of Stanton, IA; daughter, Jalene Gutierrez and husband David of Des Moines, IA; 7 grandchildren: Christine Lundgren daughter of Dan & Gerry, Brinley and Brody Sandin, Allie and Leah Sandin, Ashlyn and Taryn Gutierrez; sister, Janelle Holcomb and husband Art of Des Moines, IA; nieces: Sara Holcomb and Amy Seeman; brother-in-law, mother-in-law, Margie Blecher of Red Oak, IA; Roger Blecher and wife Judy of Lake Oswego, OR; along with other relatives and friends.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 7, 2012
at 2:00 p.m. at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton, IA
Rev. Dr. Eric Kutzli, Officiating

Masonic Service will be held Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. with visitation and viewing to follow until 8:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home

Inurnment will be in Mamre Cemetery, Stanton at a later date.

Memorials may be direct to the Mamrelund Lutheran Church, American Cancer Society or Montgomery County Fair in Jerry's name.
