Obituary

Jimmie Wayne Dykes, the son of R.D. and Nonn Earl (Baker) Dykes was born February 24, 1931 on Creek Nation in Northeastern Oklahoma. He passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 14 days. Jimmie was raised in Newby, Oklahoma and moved to Coburg, Iowa when he was 18 years old. Jimmie was united in marriage to Beulah M. Buckner McCall on August 28, 1951 in Red Oak, Iowa. Jimmie worked for Union Carbide Battery Company until he was drafted into the Army in 1955. He remained in the Army Reserves for 20 years following his military service. Jimmie worked at the Union Carbide, Hawkeye Lumber Company, Wilson Concrete and the Farmers Mercantile before beginning his civil service with the U. S. Postal Service until his disability in 1975. Jimmie loved to hunt raccoons with his coon dogs. He enjoyed watching sports, especially baseball and college football, along with his trips to the casinos. Jimmie also spent many of his Saturdays searching for treasures among auctions. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Michael B. Johnson, Jr. and Ryan Hester; sons-in-law, Patrick Joseph Beeson and Richard Joseph Barbour; 3 sisters: Neoma Hutchings, Wilma Duncan and Clyda Nell Key. Jimmie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Beulah Dykes of Red Oak, IA; 9 children: Ronda (Marvin) Tippery of Red Oak, IA, Ruth (Gary) Trudgeon of Lebanon, OR, Cheryl Barbour of Red Oak, IA, Teresa (Dennis) Hester of Spring, TX, Russell Bud" (Terry) Dykes of Bristow, OK, Kathy (Steve) Newell of Bristow, OK, Jimmie Marie Dykes- (Monte) Most of Council Bluffs, IA, Wilma Dykes of Red Oak, IA, and Roger (Julie) Dykes of Red Oak, IA; over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; Three sisters: Eva Lake, Ivadell Berray and Birdie Mac (Raymond) Hutchings, all of Bristow, OK; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. May God bless his memory and give strength to those who mourn. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Luncheon to follow service with the family at the Red Oak Eagles Lodge from 12 Noon to 4:00 PM A memorial is being established in Jimmie's name. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
