Joan C. Allen, the daughter of Charles and Janet Houser Eubanks, was born March 25, 1936 in Red Oak, Iowa. She died Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Red Oak Rehab and Care Center, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 8 days. Joan was raised in Red Oak, attending Red Oak High School. She was united in marriage to Donald O. Allen on December 12, 1951 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. They made their home in Red Oak. Joan worked at J. D. Café and other restaurants. She later worked as a C.N.A. in nursing homes and home health care. She most recently worked seven years at CDS before her retirement. Joan was involved in helping start hospice in Red Oak. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing and crafts and made all her grandchildren quilts. Joan volunteered her time at Christmas with the Salvation Army as a bell ringer. Joan was a member of Faith Community Church and helped with many activities at the church. She also enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and fishing. Mostly, she loved to read and spend time with her family. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Ryan L. Allen. Joan is survived by her husband of 59 years, Donald O. Allen of Red Oak, IA; three sons: Robin Allen and wife Vicky of Red Oak, IA; Roxie Allen and wife Aimee of Red Oak, IA; and Richard Allen and wife Iona of Corning, IA; seven grandchildren: Roni Pinkerton and husband Tim, Dawn Kalmert and husband Chris, Gina Spencer and husband Ron, Aaron Allen, Ryan Allen, Ronda Jackson and husband Daniel, and Trenton Tranbarger; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Janet Parker of Oklahoma; nieces, nephews, other relatives along with a host of friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery Rev. David MacDonald, Officiating Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial is being established in Joan's name.
