John Julian "Jack" Abbuhl, the son of Ziba and Pearly Arinda Smoots Abbuhl was born on July 25, 1928 in Palisade, Nebraska. He passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 21 days. Jack grew up in Palisade and graduated from Palisade High School in 1945. Following graduation he attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. He farmed near Palisade until 1950 at which time he entered the U.S. Army. Jack served with the First Calvary Division in Korea. After he was honorably discharged from the Army he returned to Palisade and on September 14, 1952 was united in marriage to Rosetta Miller. Jack and Rosetta made their home in the Palisade area where he continued to farm until 1971 when he became post master of the Palisade Post Office. He was employed by the post office until his retirement in 1992. In 1994, Jack and Rosetta moved to Red Oak, Iowa to be close to their son and his family. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watching the grandchildren in their activities. Jack was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion and Elks Club. Jack was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Rosetta Abbuhl, of Red Oak, IA; son, Bernard Abbuhl and wife Martha of Red Oak, IA; 3 grandchildren: Jacob of Flagstaff, AZ; Jason and Arinda of Red Oak, IA; sister: Janice Corfman of Brea, CA; other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral Service will be held Sunday, April 20, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Palisade Methodist Church, Palisade, NE Burial in Palisade Cemetery A memorial fund is being established in Jack's name.
