John Faris the son of John H. and Rachel Copenhaver Faris was born July 31, 1919 at Murray, Nebraska. He passed away Saturday morning, August 14, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Center, Beatrice, Nebraska at the age of 91 years and 14 days. John attended and graduated from Plattsmouth High School and then attended one year of business college in Omaha, Nebraska. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II from 1942 until 1945, when he was honorably discharged as Marine Corps Captain. John was united in marriage to Audrey Kimble on April 12, 1944 at Forest City, Iowa. He worked in agriculture in the grain and feed business for 27 years, a number of those years at United Farmers Mercantile Co-Op, Red Oak. Following his retirement, John worked for Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak for 22 years. He moved to Beatrice in August of 2005. John attended the First United Methodist Church while living in Red Oak. He was a member of Post #3011 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Great Bend, Kansas and Post #67 of the American Legion of Red Oak, Iowa. He was an avid golfer and follower of Nebraska football. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Audrey who passed away in 1992; son: Kim Faris; brother: Curtis Faris; sister: Leora Rieke; an infant sister and three nephews. Survivors included one son: Jay Faris and wife LuAnn of Beatrice, NE; four daughters: JoAnne Ruhge and husband Allan of Lincoln, NE; Debra Stanek and husband Dan of Ohiowa, NE; Bonnie Olson and husband Randy of Troutman, NC; and Peggy Faris of Firth, NE; daughter-in-law: Cindy Faris of Lincoln, NE; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Viewing at Fox Funeral Home, Beatrice NE on Tuesday, from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at East Union Cemetery, Union, Nebraska Rev.
