Obituary

Joseph Allen "Joe" Greenfield, the son of Paul H. and Leta A. Beavers Greenfield was born May 26, 1939 in Montgomery County, Iowa near Grant. He passed away suddenly at his home in Red Oak, Iowa on January 19, 2011 at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 24 days. Joe's early years were spent on farms near Grant and later, just south of Villisca, IA. In l947 and at the age of 8, his family moved to the Tenville, IA area. Joe attended school at Nile County School and Hazel Dell Washington #8 at Tenville and in 1957, graduated from Villisca High School. He entered the U. S. Air Force on May 27, 1957, serving in Texas, California and Japan. Joe was united in marriage to Rosetta Ross in Red Oak, IA and to this union 3 sons were born. Following his military service Joe farmed 10 years. In 1971, Joe moved into Red Oak and worked at the D & L Company for the next 4 years. In 1975, he began working for the Montgomery County Secondary Roads Department. Joe was united in marriage to Marjorie M. Paige Naico on May 27, 1978 in Red Oak. He worked for the Secondary Roads Department for 26 years, retiring in 2001. After retiring from the county, Joe worked part-time for the United Farmers Mercantile Co-op, Red Oak Greenhouse and Roger Carlson. In 2006, Joe went to work for Hy-Vee, where he was still presently working. He was a friendly guy who loved visiting with people. Joe also enjoyed dancing, fishing, camping and being outdoors along with raising pigeons and rabbits. Joe was a member of the Presbyterian Church and Red Oak Eagles Lodge. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Jean Lenz; and brother-in-law, Tom Haley. Joe is survived by his wife, Marjorie Greenfield of Red Oak, IA; 3 sons: Jay Greenfield of Council Bluffs, IA; Joel Greenfield of Beatrice, NE and Jim Greenfield and wife Peggy of Lincoln, NE; step-son, Randy Naico of San Francisco, CA; 8 grandchildren; sister, Janet Haley of Nodaway, IA; brother-in-law, Larry Lenz of Kansas City, MO; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Visitation with the family present Tuesday, January 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials may be directed to the Red Oak Presbyterian Church or Red Oak Fire & Rescue Association. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
