Joseph Vernon Wright, the son of Joseph and Opal Mentor Wright was born July 10, 1940 in Arlington, Texas. He passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 5 days. When Joe was 5 years old, the family moved from Arlington, Texas to the state of Washington. Later as a teenager, the family moved to San Bernardino, California. Joe entered the U.S. Army in l960, having served in Germany. He was honorably discharged in l962. Following the service, Joe moved to Ohio where his job in retail sales took him. While in Ohio, Joe met Isabella Young Henderson and they were united in marriage on January 21, 1978 in Middletown, Ohio. Shortly after their marriage, Joe and Isabella moved to Crete, Nebraska when he went to work for Pamida. They were later transferred to Lincoln, Nebraska where he became a store manager for Pamida. In 1983, Joe and Isabella moved to Red Oak when he accepted the position as manager for Wheelers Farm Store. He later became a supervisor for RO MECH from l989, until his retirement on March 5, 2004. Joe was a past member of the Masonic Lodge of Lincoln, NE. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing on Mondays with the seniors tour, especially playing with his golfing buddy, Willis Baker. Joe loved riding his motorcycle and generally being outdoors. He enjoyed shooting pool and the once a week breakfast with co-worker and friend, Mike Bolton. Joe had a special bond with his in-laws, Edward and Isabella Young of Scotland. He looked forward to their visits or the trips he and Isabella would take to Scotland. He was thrilled to play golf on the old 'St. Andrews' course in Scotland. Joe treasured his family, he loved them dearly. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack Wright; son, David Henderson; father and mother-in-law, Edward & Isabella Young; and brother-in-law, Edward Young. Joe is survived by his wife, Isabella Wright of Red Oak, IA; son, James Henderson and wife Jaime of Columbus, NE; 3 grandchildren: Eric, Ethan and Madison; nephew, Tim Wright and wife Lynn of Indianapolis, IN; niece, Lydia Hamilton of Idaho; sister-in-law, Catherine Robertson and husband Peter of Scotland and their children: Aileen Freeman and husband Stewart, and Linsey Robertson and fiancée Raymond; other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Monday, November 19, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. At Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home, Red Oak Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Caryn Pedersen, Officiating Visitation with the family present at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home on Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial is being established in Joe's name.
