Obituary

Josephine "Jo" Elaine Schomburg, the daughter of George Theron and Bessie Ruth (Smith) Miller was born February 12, 1926 on her parent's farm in Pilot Grove Township of Montgomery County, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 3 days. Jo attended Pilot Grove Country School through the eighth grade. She then attended Red Oak High School graduating in 1943. She was proud of the fact that she was one of the only females in the county to be inducted into "The National Honor Society" at that time. Jo was united in marriage to Edwin Schomburg on March 9, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Villisca, Iowa and made their home on the farm that Josephine's father purchased in 1931. Jo thought it was exceptional that she was born, raised, and then as an adult, lived and cared for the farm that her father purchased so long ago. She raised hogs for 55 years on her farm, loved her horses and her black German Shepherds. Jo was an avid paperweight and bookend collector, even attending paperweight conventions. She felt everyone should have a hobby, "something that makes one happy." Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin on January 28, 1997 and brother, Benne C. Miller. Jo is survived by her son, Jim Schomburg of rural Villisca, IA; and daughter, Margy Bradford and husband, Phillip of Traskwood, AR; six grandchildren: Jason Schomburg of Dubuque, IA; Stephanie Bradford of Augusta, AR; Vicki (Curtis) Robinson of Vilonia, AR; Robert (Mandy) Bradford of Clarksville, TN; Tommy Bradford of Conway, AR; and Jessica (Scott) Donahoo of Elliott, IA; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends, along with her two loving and faithful German Shepherds. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.
