Obituary

Joyce Javene Davis, the daughter of Lewis and Adelaide Corwin Jones was born May 23, 1920 in Paxton, Nebraska. She passed away on Saturday, December 25, 2010 at Lakeside Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 90 year, 7 months and 2 days. As a child, Joyce lived in Nebraska until the family moved to Washington County, Kansas where she graduated from high school. Following graduation, she continued her education at Kansas State University, where she met Doc. On February 11, 1940, Joyce was united in marriage to Dr. S. L. "Doc" Davis in Hanover, Kansas. Joyce and Doc lived two years in Storm Lake, Iowa and then for one year in Butler, Missouri. In 1944, Joyce and Doc made Red Oak their home until 2001, when they moved to Omaha, Nebraska to be closer to family. Joyce was a member of the First United Methodist Church serving many years as a Sunday School teacher, along with being a member and Past President of P.E.O. Chapter HB both of Red Oak. Joyce was also a Past President of the Iowa Veterinary Auxiliary and Past Mother Advisor of Rainbow. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and husband: Dr. S.L. Davis on December 30, 2006 and sister: Zelma. Joyce is survived by three children: Dr. Kirk J. Davis and wife Mary of Omaha, NE; Coleen K. Sheets of Lincoln, NE and Sindra S. Hagerman and husband Alan of Rozel, KS; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; along with other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Red Oak, IA Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak Rev. Fred Pilecki, Officiating A short PEO Service at 6:00 p.m. with family visitation immediately following until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home Memorials to: First United Methodist Church in Red Oak. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
