Judith Ann (Beery) Lovitt, the daughter of Leland Paul and Ruth (Cullison) Beery, was born August 22, 1942, in a little house on East Tarkio Street in Clarinda, Iowa. She went to be with her Lord on Thursday, January 1, 2026, at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, at the age of 83 years, 4 months, and 10 days.
Judith spent most of her life in Clarinda, Iowa, but had also lived in San Diego, CA, Mitchell, NE, Maysville, MO, Leesville, LA and Worth, MO. She returned to Clarinda at the beginning of her 8th grade, following the death of her mother. Judith and her two brothers were raised by their grandparents, Ernest and Blanche Cullison. She graduated from Clarinda High School in l960. On September 1, 1961, Judith was united in marriage to Richard Lovitt of New Market, Iowa, at the First Christian Church in Clarinda. They were blessed with two children: Christi and Scott.
Judy went to college when the children started school, taking Practical Nursing courses at Iowa Western Community College, where she graduated with Honors. Over her career, Judy worked at Clarinda Regional Hospital in the Emergency Room and Surgery, West Heights Manor Nursing Home in Physical Therapy, Rehab Visions at West Heights Manor and the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak. In 2005, she moved to Stanton, where she and Richard made their home and were members of Mamrelund Lutheran Church.
Judy had many interests in life, she enjoyed oil painting, cooking, baking, sewing, crocheting and enjoyed helping with church dinners. She mostly enjoyed the pleasure of distributing her baked goods to friends and neighbors of the area. She enjoyed crocheting stocking hats for the homeless, making over 400 hats and delivering them to the Open Door Mission in Omaha. Judy and Dick took care of the flower gardens around Mamrelund Lutheran Church from 2008 until 2015 and enjoyed working on the flower beds on the Greenbelt Trail in Stanton. Family was especially important to Judy. She loved doing all she could for family and friends.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Leland Paul, and Ruth Cullison Beery; brother, Leland Paul Beery; maternal & paternal grandparents, grandson, Matthew Glenn Lovitt, sisters-in-law: Patsy Joan Lovitt Davison and Deloris Elaine Calhoun Beery and brother-in-law, Lowell Davison.
Left to cherish Judith's memory is her loving husband of 65 years, Richard Lovitt of Stanton, IA; children: Christi (Tom) Elwood of Stanton, IA, and Scott (Diane) Lovitt of rural Clearmont, MO; grandchildren: Joshua (Lindsay) Elwood of Coin, IA, Casey (Mary) Elwood of Ames, IA, Hannah (Ahren) Marburger of Farnhamville, IA, Steven Lovitt of Omaha, NE, Amie (Jason) Proudfit of Kansas City, MO, and Aaron Hutchinson of rural Clearmont, MO; great-grandchildren: Lily Elwood, Keegan Hull, and Kennedy Hull of Coin, IA, Malayna and Masey Elwood of Ames, IA, Andrew Marburger of Farnhamville, IA, Ryder Hutchinson, Spencer Hutchinson, and Livi Hutchinson of Shenandoah, IA, Raegan Proudfit and Rylee Proudfit of Kansas City, MO and Breanna Proudfit of Winterset, IA; brother, Gary Beery of Clarinda, IA; and sister-in-law, Diana Beery of Villisca, IA; other relatives and friends.
