Obituary

Karen Brittain Lewis, the son of Otho W. and Lillian (Million) Lewis was born June 1, 1935 at Fairfax, Missouri. He passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Methodist Hospital, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 2 days.

Karen was raised around Fairfax, before the family moved to Emerson, Iowa, where he attended school. Karen was united in marriage to Mary Jane Madden on April 21, 1957 at Red Oak, Iowa. Throughout their life together, they made their home in several communities in southwest Iowa, including: Red Oak, Elliott, Atlantic and Emerson. In 2005, they moved back to Red Oak. Karen worked 22 years for the Iowa Department of Transportation. He loved to go camping and fishing, enjoyed playing chess and checkers, playing games on his computer and being active on Facebook. Karen loved his faithful dog, Bear who was his constant companion.

Karen was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Jane Lewis on July 16, 2010; grandson, Andrew Lewis; great-grandson, Josh; and brothers: William and Gary Lewis and sister, Lorna Mae.

Karen is survived by his five children: James (Debbie) Lewis of Shenandoah, IA, Robert (Ronna) Lewis of Bellevue, NE, Rodney (Rhonda) Lewis of Carroll, IA, Rebecca Marcotte of Omaha, NE and Stephen (Lou) Lewis of Clarinda, IA; 24 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Betty (Cecil) Bullington of Red Oak, IA, Mary (Eugene) Waymire of Hastings, IA and Sharon (Raymond) Mitchell of Corning, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family present one hour prior to the funeral service, on Monday, January 7, 2019 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home
