V. Kathleen Armentrout, the daughter of Harry P. and Agnes A. (Davis) Carlton was born June 12, 1920 at Griswold, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 94 years, 6 months and 13 days. Kathleen graduated from Griswold High School in 1938. She worked for several local businesses and then as a secretary for the Rudolph Law Office in Griswold. Kathleen was united in marriage to Ross A. Armentrout on December 1, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa. They lived in Reno, Nevada for several years and later moved to Lodi, California, where she worked at Woolworths Store. During World War II, while Ross was serving in the Army overseas, she and her son Barry made their home with her parents in Griswold. After World War II, Kathleen and Ross returned to Reno, Nevada for a few years. In June of 1947, they moved to Griswold to go into business with the Candy Kitchen. In 1950, they went into the grocery business, where Kathleen worked part time with her husband at Ross's Super Value until 1983, when she and Ross retired. They made their home in Red Oak in 1997 to be close to their daughter, Karlee. Kathleen was a member of the Griswold United Methodist Church for 73 years, where she sang in the choir and was active in the U.M.W. Evening Circle. She was a charter member of the Federate Club, Progressive Club and involved in the Tuesday Music Club for over 50 years. Family was very important to Kathleen, she was a wonderful and loving mother and grandmother. Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ross on February 24, 2013; and brother, Boyd Carlton and his wife, Juanita. Kathleen is survived by her son, Barry Armentrout and wife, Linda of Portland, OR, and daughter, Karlee Govig and husband, Roger of Red Oak, IA; four grandchildren: Scott Armentrout and wife, Lisa of Montrose, CO, Beth Nelson and husband, Ronald of Portland, OR, Ann Jacobson and husband, Douglas of Washington, DC, and Dr. Meagan Govig of Bloomington, MN; four great-grandchildren; nephews: Jim Carlton and wife, Laura and Mark Carlton and wife, Angie all of Griswold, IA; other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Griswold United Methodist Church, Griswold, IA Burial will be at the Griswold Cemetery Rev. Dwight Grosvenor, Officiating Visitation with the family present on Monday, December 29 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak. Memorials may be made to the Griswold United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society. Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral is in charge of arrangements.
