Kathryn Dee Briggs, the daughter of Robert ""Bob"" and Phyllis Kingery Long was born on May 26, 1951 in Corning, Iowa, the second of eight children. She was met by Jesus and her Mother on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa, after a prolonged and courageous battle with cancer at the age of 56 years, 9 months and 3 days. Kathy was raised in Corning, Iowa and attended Corning Community Schools. She worked a short time at the Extension Office with Mary Ann McKinney as an administrative assistant. Kathy moved to Red Oak in l983 and was united in marriage to Arthur "Bud" Briggs on July 17, 1989 in Red Oak. She was a homemaker and beloved wife, mother and sister who will be dearly missed. While in Red Oak, Kathy worked at the Care Centers and most recently was a driver with Southwest Iowa Transit. She always had good things to say about everyone and could find no fault with any lifestyle. If you were in need of friendship, Kathy was always there. She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Red Oak. Kathy will be dearly missed by her greatest admirers and companions, Poncho and Snookie. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents: Bob and Phyllis; nephews: James and Christopher; and daughter-in-law, Toni Wilson of Omaha. Kathy is survived by her husband: Arthur "Bud" Briggs of Red Oak, Iowa; sons: Jeremy Long and wife Brenda of Perryland, TX; Shannon Long of Omaha, NE; 3 grandchildren: Bailey Kathryn Long and Josie Miner of Lincoln, NE; Joshua Aaron Long of Perryland, TX; sisters: Tessa Hardee and husband Duane of Red Oak, IA; Roberta Townsend of Albia, IA; Jeri Walters of Atlantic, IA; Maggie Morehouse and husband Rick of Atlantic, IA; brothers: Tom Long and wife Linda of Jefferson, IA; Phil Long and wife Patty of rural Corning, IA; Jim Long of Albia, IA; step-children: Cindy Echternach and husband Mike of Red Oak, IA; Jeff Briggs of Council Bluffs, IA; Tina Krug and husband Jody of Nebraska City, NE; Tanya Petry and husband Jeff of Omaha, NE; sisters-in-law: Mrs. Carolyn Vanderhoof of Red Oak, IA; Gloria Kinser and husband Kenneth of Red Oak, IA; brother-in-law: H.L. "Howard" Briggs of Liberal, KS; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of dear friends. May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn. Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak, Iowa Rev. Gary Walters, Officiating Family and friends will meet at Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. for procession to the cemetery. No visitation or viewing will be held at the funeral home.
